Midsummer's Night Dream
by Lucy C. and Neve D.
Attention, PS 6! The fifth-graders are now putting on their play, Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. Their final performance will be open to the public on the day of December 11th 2014. The play will be broken into 3 scenes. Each 5th grade class will perform one scene. Everyone is very excited to perform but sadly the 4thgrade students are the only students who will get to see the play.
Some of you already know a Midsummer Nights Dream but for the people who don’t know, we will summarize the story for you so you will get a better understanding of the play. There are actually three stories that are interwoven together. Quince, Bottom and other workers are putting on a play, but that gets delayed when Oberon and Puck (The king of fairies and his messenger) transform Bottom into a donkey. Titania, the queen of fairies, had recently got in a fight with Oberon, and Oberon had his revenge by making her fall in love with Bottom, who was now a donkey. Meanwhile, a young Athenian named Hermia fought against her father because he believed she should marry Demetrius, but she loved Lysander. She decided to run away, and told her best friend about it. But Helena (her best friend who was madly in love with Demetrius) told Demetrius, hoping to steal his heart. Oberon and Puck see this, and try to fix this. But not everything goes as they planned. How will they fix it? Will Oberon want his Titania back? Come and see the play to find out!
We interviewed Melanie Freifeld and she is very excited about putting on the play. She also likes her part, Titania, because she thinks it’s fun to be somebody completely different for a while.
In closing, the fifth-grade play will be open to all students and if this article caught your attention, then you might just want to go see it!
