Is Test Prep Worth It?
by Ariel B.
Did you ever complain about too much test prep work? I have. I hate homework, but my biggest pet-peeve about homework is test prep. I interviewed Ms. Bader and Mr. Nintemen to see what they think about test prep and both think that, well I shouldn’t tell you exactly what they said, because that wouldn’t be very nice, but they think that it is a waste of time for everybody. Not just students, but teachers too. Personally, when I hear the words “test prep” I just want to bang my head on a wall and rip the book to threads. You can see how much I hate test prep.
The first thing I wanted to know was how test prep makes them feel. Mr. Nintemen explained that he understands that we feel overloaded with test prep. He advised students to complete each section of homework in one sitting, to get it over with. Also he is overloaded with work himself, so he sympathizes how students feel. Ms. Bader thinks that she has a lot of work already and doesn’t think that giving children test prep has a positive impact. It just puts students under even more pressure.
Life was different when our teachers went to school. They didn’t have to do any test prep. The teachers would just get the test. Ms. Bader was one of the many students who had no test prep. Wouldn’t you want to live in a world with no test prep EVER?
In contrast, some parents and adults think that giving test prep helps kids be ready for the test, and they get extra practice for that subject. Also, parents think that extra work can help kids for their future.
In conclusion, even though you may think that test prep has no use in life, at the end you will most likely thank your teachers for giving all your test prep. Maybe at the beginning you thought that you could just die when doing it, but as you can see, you are still here reading this article, and going to a school with all of your friends, so I would like to congratulate you for surviving that horrible experience, as you can call it.
