Bullying

Have you ever been bullied before?
Have YOU ever bullied someone before? Well I would like to teach you what it feels like to bully someone and what it feels like when you are getting bullied. If you are someone who is interested in this topic, I suggest you read on. If you are NOT interested in this topic, I still think you should read this, because it usually happens in our daily lives.
Have YOU ever been bullied before? Well I know Ms. Bader has. She told me when she was in 5th grade she got bullied! She also told me she has hurt people’s feelings before, which isn’t the best feeling either. Ms. Bader HAS seen people get bullied before. She actually has seen kids getting bullied before in this school! Unlike Ms. Bader, teachers see it in a different way. They think that this school is lucky to be bully-free. But is it always what it seems like? Kids see more bullying than teachers. Kids also need to inform teachers of a person getting bullied or if they themselves are getting bullied. Or else, it will get worse. So don’t be afraid! Stand up for yourself! Or better yet, tell the teacher. They will take care of it and it will teach the bully a lesson.
Welcome to reality
When I was interviewing teachers, most of them said that they see more fights than bullying. But fights are also in the category of bullying. If I had a nickel for every time I had a fight with my friend, I’d probably have a thousand. Whenever I had a fight, I felt like I was doing something wrong. It was bullying. Not convinced yet? Think of it like this: 2 best friends one day had a fight. Sure they are arguing over something, but are they just doing THAT? They can PHYSICALLY fight each other, or maybe lie to the teacher about something, or even one kid can tell another kid to not hang out with the kid that she was fighting with and spread rumors saying “Oh, don’t hang out with her. She tells secrets”. Or, “Don’t hang out with this girl, she is SO mean. She is also pretty fat so don’t hang out with her.” That can happen when you’re in a fight. I have experienced this. And whenever I see an argument between kids, I always notice that a kid who is involved will come up to me and spread gossip about another person in the argument. Stop! It’s not nice. And if you don’t care that you’re doing this, then that means you are not a very nice person, and it’s harder to make friends that way.
Making good choices
Not only has Ms. Bader seen/been in a situation in which she got bullied. I also interviewed kids! That’s the most important part, because kids usually get bullied MOST or have seen bullying. I also interviewed a student named Rachael. She said that she hasn’t gotten bullied before or DID bully someone before, but, she did SEE people get bullied before. That’s also really important! She might have not stood up for people before, but she could have told the teacher, but not EVERYONE stands up for himself or herself or another person. It’s hard! Some people might not like bullying but they can be VERY shy! Also, some people think they might get bullied if they stand up for someone. Sometimes, you can get a feeling inside that you might get bullied too! But, it is VERY important to tell the teacher, or else things will get WORSE. Just keep that in mind. And if you are scared… DON’T be! You’re doing the right thing, and that’s what matters. If the bully tries to hurt you back, just stand up for that person (Not physically or violently) but in words. Say, “Hey! Don’t bully that person! How would you like it if he/she would bully you?!” And just walk away, get an adult or teacher, and trust me, after that, you will feel SO good for doing such a RIGHT thing! J
Bystanders? I don’t think so… Now that we got the bullying examples off our shoulders, there is another word that is kind of like bullying, except they are kind of like the bully’s minion. They can be mean, (watching and laughing when someone is getting bullied) OR someone who stands up for a person getting bullied. DING! Times up! They are called ‘Bystanders’ and ‘Upstanders’. Bystanders are people who stand by or near a person who is getting bullied and laughs. Or, they don’t do anything and just stare! Bystanders got their name by the word ‘By’ as in “By someone” and ‘standers’, as in “Standing”. Bystanders aren’t very GOOD. They aren’t good, because they can laugh at someone getting bullied, or hurt their feelings along with a bully. That’s a bystander. A bystander is not so bad, because they just don’t know what do do in a situation and they can just stand there and do nothing, so they are not necessarily bad people, they just don’t help the problem. An upstander is the opposite. An upstander helps out the person getting bullied. For example, if they see a kid or person getting bullied, they will stand up for the person getting bullied. They might say, “How would you like it if YOU got bullied. Or “Go pick on someone your own size.” Upstanders also can get a teacher, if necessary. If you flip the word the other way around, it is “StanderUp”, or in this case, “StandingUp”, as in “Standing up for someone.” Upstanders are good, as you can see. So who are you? A bystander or an upstander?
STOP bullying!
I think some of you guys HAVE bullied someone before, or hurt their feelings before, and if you are someone who is constantly bullying people, STOP! It’s not nice. Anyway, if you are a person who sometimes can hurt other kids’ feelings, think before you say. This is important, because if you slip something out that’s mean, it might hurt someone’s feelings. To recover from this, you just have to think what you’re about to say and think, “Hmm, is this something that will make someone feel bad?” And if you think it’s a mean thing to say, just DON’T say it. Just “Think before you say.” It says it right in the content. Overall, I think, if you are a person who bullies people, just read these steps, (And the other paragraphs) so you can change what you are doing wrong.
Do you know who you are?
Do you know who you are? Are you a bystander? Are you an upstander? Are you a BULLY? Think about yourself for a moment. Upstander, bystander, bully? Think about it for a moment. Think about what YOU have done in the past to a person. That will give you the answer. If you are a bully, please change. You will just waste your time bullying people. That’s not right. If you keep on bullying, it can get into SERIOUS situations. We are all human. If you tease someone, that means you are teasing yourself, because we are ALL people. If you are a bystander, watching, laughing, whenever someone is getting hurt or bullied, then you should change, too. Bystanding only leads you to worse possibilities. Bystanding is kind of like bullying, except, you’re not the bully. You’re more like the bully’s minions who help out. If you are a bystander who is scared of the bully, and just watch and laugh so you don’t get hurt, please don’t do that. People can be afraid of a bully, but that doesn’t mean to play along with them. Be brave, and be a GOOD person and get a teacher. That will make you have a better reputation. If you are an upstander, GOOD JOB! That means you treat the world with caring respect. Keep it up. But, don’t bully the person back if the person bullies you. It’s like the saying “If the person hits you, don’t hit back.” Meaning, if a person is mean to you, or bullies you, don’t bully or be mean back or else someone is going to get hurt and the situation will get WORSE. So who are you?
Conclusion
Read these paragraphs over again, if you’d like. I hope this article can teach you something, or make you learn more! I hope people can improve more and understand about the REAL world of bullying. Make good choices and remember to NOT bully. Let’s hope to make the world a better place. Let’s not bully! Let’s be nice. Let’s make this world a better place.
