Ultimate for Everyone?
by Jack Z.
Was it you last year who was very disappointed that you did not get on the Ultimate Team? Well try this year because your chances are 100 percent that you’ll be on the Ultimate Team.
There are three Ultimate teams and they are based on athletic ability and strength. How will it be determined which team you’ll be on? I don’t know. There are three seasons: two boy seasons and one girl season. Even though everyone who wants to be on Ultimate can be on it, some people think that it is worse that there are three teams this year for everyone who wants to play. Read this and you will find out why.
I interviewed Andrew Z. from class 5-302 and I asked him if it is better to have Ultimate for everyone. He said it would be better because some kids are not as sporty as other kids or do not play as well as others, and now those kids can play. I also asked him if it would be better if the new rule will make people happier. He said again that he thinks people might be relieved that they have a guaranteed chance of making a team and won’t have to worry about playing against kids who are far above or far below their level. He is in season two, the more advanced boy season. I’m in season one.
After that, I interviewed David P. from class 4-327 and he said that he liked the way P.S.6 does Ultimate because now everyone is on the team for one of the seasons. Also, he thinks that no one will brag which season they are on. He thinks P.S.6. is a school that does not brag.
Finally, I interviewed Wills F. from class 4-321. He said that he was not sure which he prefers. One way he feels is that the old process of Ultimate (selecting only kids who qualify) is fair because kids who are from Ultimate from the previous years will be disappointed. Wills also feels that having three seasons based on ability and strength is fair because for the not as athletic kids, they will have a chance to play. Wills thinks the new three season system has good sides and bad sides.
