Keeping Green in our PS6 Community
by Isabella A.
I would like to introduce you to the bin/cans system that our PS6 community is about to begin to use. We have decided to change our colors on the bins system. We also planned out and have ideas or visions of a few other ideas that I would like to present to you.
These are the changed colors of the bins:
-Blue is metal and plastic
-Brown/Black is garbage
-Green is paper
This may be harder for some of the younger kids to remember so Gabriella A. made a poem for the younger kids to use in order to remember what each color signifies. You can look at this also on the Student Eye. In addition to this, after these bins are settled in then we will be having an assembly that includes a video that the EcoKids made about how we recycle at PS6.
This relates to the recycling in our PS6 community. We just need all the teachers and students to cooperate and follow the new system. Also students recently received a newsletter about Polychlorinated Biphenyls(PCB’s). This chemical used to be used in some machines until scientists found out how harmful they were to animals and humans. A recent study showed that they could cause cancer to both humans and animals. The lights that PS6 has been using have been found to possibly contain PCB’s. These lights will be switched out for more eco-friendly and non-polluting lights.
Do your best keeping green in your individual classrooms and bring these ideas to your own homes. But, don’t forget to earn your Green Stars!
