The Pressure of Applying to Middle School
by Ariel B.
Middle school, middle school, middle school.
That is one thing that everyone has to go through at some point in his or her life. I interviewed Ms. Galosso about what happens at that time.
Something that you want to make sure happens is that you feel comfortable in the school you end up going to. Ms. Galosso explained that some people like to be in smaller schools and some in bigger schools. For example, some bigger schools are like Wagner and East Side Middle. Some smaller ones are like Salk. It also depends on what you like to do. Ms. Galosso says that all schools are great, but different schools have different things that they offer. For example, if you like music, Wagner has a great music program, but other schools don’t. Again, some schools don’t have everything kids might want, like a yard or a sports program.
Something that is very important is that, as I said, you should NEVER choose something if you are not comfortable with it. This includes middle school, or any other things in your life. Once you go through the whole process, you will most likely know where you want to go, so don’t sweat it. Sometimes you are put in a position where you don’t know what to do. Also, you are stuck in a position where you don’t feel ready for moving on, like me, but everyone is different, so different people think different things. For me personally, if I had a choice I would stay here at P.S.6 for the rest of my life.
You may think that if you get a bad ELA or MATH test score it is the end of the world, but it isn’t. You still have a life, and you still will do great in school, and of course your mom and dad will love you. It won’t effect how you turn out to be. Schools do look at everything, and some do not.
Many people would think that they are losers for not getting into their first choice, but really, it is not you. It is the schools’ choice. If schools could accept everyone, many schools would. And a secret is, if you get into your second or third choice, and not your first, it is really the school’s loss, not yours.
In conclusion, this is what it feels like to be a true 5th grader going through the process of finding a school that is right for you. So you have to sit back and relax and do your best. Just remember: it doesn’t matter who you are, because you will always be a star.
